Schools prepare for parent-teacher interviews

Montague Regional High School

The next parent council meeting is Nov. 20, 5:30 p.m., in the MRHS library conference room.

Parent-teacher interviews will be on Nov.16, 6-8:30 p.m., and Nov.17, 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. Report cards will be available during those times. There will be no classes for students on Nov. 17, due to interviews.

Results from the intermediate math assessment written by Grade 10 students last June were sent home with Grade 10 students last week.

Reserve Dec. 4, 5:30-7:30 p.m., for the MRHS school library fundraiser at Chapters Indigo in Charlottetown. MRHS choir students will entertain shoppers with their musical talents. A percentage of sales will go towards future school library purchases.

Westisle Composite High School

Students will not have school on Nov. 13 and 17. Parents are reminded that parent-teacher interviews are coming up on Nov. 16 (5-8 p.m.) and Nov. 17 (10 a.m. to noon).

Looking ahead, students’ last day of classes in 2017 will be Dec. 22. The first day back will be Jan. 3.

Westisle’s cafeteria is now offering more gluten-free options. Students have the opportunity to purchase sub buns, pasta and wraps that are gluten free. To avoid cross-contamination, anyone who would like these options is asked to pre-order in the morning.

Westisle’s Credit Union Fitness Centre is hosting a free CrossFit program after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 3-3:45 for any students interested in attending.

The school’s clothing website is offering a limited time discount.

Anyone who makes a purchase of over $40 in Wolverine merchandise will receive $10 off until Nov. 19.

Colonel Gray High School St. Mary’s University representative will be in student services on Nov. 14 at lunch, and King’s College will be there after school on the same day.

Mid-term report cards will be sent home on Nov. 16.

Parent-teacher interviews will be held on Nov. 16 (6:30-9 p.m.) and Nov. 17 (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.).

Graduation photos start on Nov. 17. These are by appointment only. See Mrs. Profit in the library.

The annual Colonel Gray Craft Fair is Nov. 17 (5-9 p.m.) and Nov. 18 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

A free bus tour is Nov. 17 to check out Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B., leaving Charlottetown (Cineplex Cinemas) at 9:30 a.m. and returning 7:15 p.m. This includes a campus tour, presentation, dining hall buffet meal and on-the-spot admissions for students who bring their transcripts. In advance, students need to register online at discover.mta.ca and fill in a waiver form, available in student services.

Bluefield High School

Representatives from St. Mary’s University, University of New Brunswick and University of King’s College will be at Bluefield this week for presentations.

The foods and culinary classes at Bluefield enjoyed the opportunity made possible by Don Northcott to visit his Clyde River Orchard. Students picked and learned about his variety of apples, berries and potatoes, as well as other crops he grows on his farm.

Beth Kirby won the Canadian Legion Remembrance Day Literary Contest. She travelled to Ottawa to read her poem entitled “What a Poppy Brings to Mind” at the National Remembrance Day Service on Nov. 11. A Remembrance Day assembly was held at the school on Nov.

At Indigo Books in Charlottetown on Nov. 14, 5:30-9 p.m., a portion of all sales will be donated to the library for the purchase of new books.

Charlottetown Rural High School

The 2017 yearbooks have arrived and they look fantastic. All those who placed orders may pick up their books at the office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are a limited number of books still available for sale for $50 each, which can also be purchased at the office. Parent-teacher interviews are at the school on Nov. 16, 6:30-9 p.m., and Nov. 17, 12:30-3:30 p.m.

There will be no classes for students on Nov. 17 while staff participates in professional development meetings in the morning and parent-teacher interviews in the afternoon.

Students and staff attended a Remembrance Day assembly on Nov. 9, organized and hosted by a group of staff and students with guest speaker Doug MacDonald.

On Nov. 9, 7 p.m., CRHS band students performed a joint concert at Stonepark with their students.

Mount Allison University will be offering a special shuttle service on Nov. 17, with pickups in the Charlottetown and BordenCarleton regions. Students will tour the campus, learn more about academic programs and extracurricular activities, eat at an award-winning dining hall and have time to explore residences, labs and all Mount Allison has to offer. Admissions counsellors will also be performing on-the-spot admissions assessments for any students who bring their transcript with them. To register, visit discover.mta.ca and click on Events.

Kinkora Regional High School

On Nov. 16, parent-teacher interviews are 3:30-8 p.m. They continue Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. There are no classes on Nov. 17.

The foods 421 class is inviting anyone who has a talent for Christmas baking to join them and help them learn some secrets to peanut butter balls, shortbread cookie, Christmas candy and more. Phone Mrs. Reeves at 902-887-2424 to volunteer this month.

On Nov.16, all ADP students have been invited to the Youth Entrepreneurship Forum at the Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside.
