Explosion still under investigation

-

HAMPSHIRE — Police are asking for the public’s assistance in determining what caused a trailer to explode in an isolated part of a farmer’s field more than a week ago. The 30-foot-long travel trailer blew up Nov. 4 in a field near Hampshire at around 9:20 p.m., creating a blast heard by several residents in the area.

The RCMP say the investigation is ongoing into what type of material caused the explosion and whether it was accidental or deliberately set. Police are scanning debris from the blast in hopes of determining what caused the incident.

A nearby resident told The Guardian last week that the trailer sat about 500 metres off a section of the Confederation Trail between the Colville Road and Darlington. He said the outside of the trailer was pockmarked with what appeared to be bullet holes, but it didn’t look as if anyone had been living in it. RCMP is asking anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact the Queens District detachment or Crime Stoppers.
