- WARTIME

Historic photos are capturing Charlottetown during wartime in an exhibit that honours veterans.

The municipality has partnered with the Prince Edward Island Regiment Museum to create the exhibit, entitled Lest We Forget.

The exhibit includes a variety of historic photographs depicting the capital city and its citizens during wartime.

This is the latest installment of the “Picturing a City” historic photo exhibit series that focuses on an aspect of Charlottetown’s history or traditions.

The photos are displayed in the windows of the Planning and Heritage Department at 233 Queen St.

City staff members have opened up their archival collections and selected fascinating photos from many different eras and locations all over Charlottetown and overseas.

The Prince Edward Island Regiment Museum has provided selections from its vast collection of images, as well artifacts from the First World War and the Second World War.

The display includes photos of Charlottetown’s veterans, the Air Force and Army training areas in the city, various parades — including the VE Day Parade — as well as some interesting propaganda posters and greeting cards from the front.

The exhibit runs until Dec. 1 when a new display entitled, Happy Holidays, celebrating the city’s historic holiday traditions, will be launched in the space. All exhibits will be posted online at https://charlottetownstories.wordpress.com/.
