Raising awareness about diabetes today at UPEI

-

World Diabetes Day will be recognized with an event today at the UPEI track.

Diabetes Canada will assemble P.E.I.’s first-ever human blue circle with the event scheduled to begin at noon.

It’s meant to show the more than 16,000 Islanders living with diabetes they are not alone.

Participants are asked to wear their best blue outfit. The event is not expected to take more than 20 minutes.

The World Diabetes Day campaign is represented by a blue circle that was adopted in 2007 after the passage of the United Nations resolution on diabetes.

The blue circle is the global symbol for diabetes awareness, signifying the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes epidemic.

World Diabetes Day is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of more than one billion people in more than 160 countries.
