Jeff Murphy new board chairman for P.E.I. Literacy Alliance
Local businessman Jeff Murphy is the P.E.I. Literacy Alliance’s new chairman of the board of directors.
Murphy is a corporate strategist with 15 years of expertise in finance, sales and marketing.
“The Literacy Alliance has provided enormous value to Islanders for over 20 years,’’ says Murphy.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve such an important organization.’’
Having worked extensively in developing countries, he has seen first-hand the impact that education, specifically literacy skills, has on standard of living.
Murphy has advised governments in over 15 developing countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East on how to attract private sector investment to develop transportation infrastructure.
Since returning to P.E.I., Murphy has focused on acquisitions and marketing to grow his family’s business, Murphy Healthcare, and served as executive director of Murphy’s Community Centre between 2013 and 2016.
Murphy, who has a chartered financial analyst designation, has sat on numerous corporate and not-for-profit boards.
Past chairman Ron MacDonald says Murphy played a critical role as board treasurer in having the alliance secure two years of core-funding from the provincial government.
