The funeral mass for Earl James Magennis was celebrated Wednesday, November 1, 2017, from Hillsboro Funeral Home to St. Joachim’s Church, Vernon River with Fr. Benedict Paulraj, O. Praem proclaimin­g the gospel and delivering the homily. The pall was placed by his sons - Jack, Terry and Brian. The Pascal Candle was lit by Kara Sansom. The first reading was read by Alanna Magennis, second reading by Janice Kelly and prayers of intercessi­on by Devin Magennis and Hannah MacDonald. Music was provided by organist and soloist Joan Gleadall. The procession­al hymn was “Be Not Afraid”; responsori­al psalm - “The Lord is my Shepherd”; offertory - “Here I am Lord”; communion - “How Great Thou Art”; meditation - “On Eagle’s Wings”; incense - “Songs of the Angels” and the recessiona­l hymn was “We Rise Again”. The Eucharisti­c Ministers were Elaine Fraser and Bernadette MacPherson. The cross bearer was Eddie Trainor; the altar servers were Joe Koughan and Fred McInnis; and the holy water and incense bearer was David MacDonald. The pallbearer­s were Garry O’Brien, Frankie O’Brien, Barry Doyle, Kevin Doyle, John MacIntyre and Bobby Magennis. The flower bearers were Melissa Whalen, Kara Sansom, Alanna Magennis, Devin Magennis, Liam Magennis, Hannah MacDonald and Drew MacDonald. Interment followed at St. Joachim’s Cemetery with Fr. Benedict Paulraj delivering the graveside prayers. Completion of funeral arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Hillsboro Funeral Home.
