Their time to shine

Holland College’s Music Performance students to present showcase on Nov. 24

-

Students in Holland College’s music performance program, part of the School of Performing Arts, are hard at work.

They’re getting ready for their first showcase of the year on Friday, Nov. 24, 7:30 p.m., in the Florence Simmons Performance Hall on the Prince of Wales Campus in Charlottetown.

The students work in ensembles throughout the term in a variety of genres, including country and rock, R&B, jazz, Celtic and world music. The showcase is their opportunity to perform in public with their best pieces.

The audience play an important role in the student showcases, says Gaylene Carragher, director of the School of Performing Arts.

“With a growing international student body in the program, many students’ families are too far away to travel to Prince Edward Island for the event, so enthusiastic Island support is especially welcome.

“Our local students appreciate a good turn out, too,” she says.

Admission is $10. Tickets may be purchased in advance from the box office of the Florence Simmons Performance Hall at 140 Weymouth St. in Charlottetown.

The School of Performing Arts programs offered at Confederation Centre of the Arts, theatre performance, dance performance and performance foundation will host a showcase next spring. This semester, the second-year students are doing a theatre for young audiences tour to the high schools. In addition, the first-year students will be in Confederation Centre’s Christmas production.
