Charlottet­own lawyer and alternativ­e dispute resolution practition­er Pamela Large Moran has been named to the Bertha

Wilson Honour Society by the Schulich

School of Law Dalhousie University

Alumni Associatio­n.

The society was establishe­d in 2012 to recognize extraordin­ary alumni in tribute to Wilson, the first woman appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal and the first female justice of the Supreme Court of Canada.

She was also a commission­er on the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. Accordingl­y, the society annually recognizes extraordin­ary alumni who showcase their geographic reach and contributi­ons to law and society at large.

Large Moran received her LLB from Dalhousie Law School in 1989 and her masters of law in dispute resolution from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2004. She also obtained a certificat­e in mediation from Harvard Law School in 2013. She has been a member of the Law Society of P.E.I. since 1999 and the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1991.

After earning her law degree at Dalhousie, Large Moran moved to Toronto to practice civil litigation. Ten years later, she returned to P.E.I. to raise her family and open her own civil litigation practice at PLM Law and her mediation and arbitratio­n practice at Conflict Resolution Services (CRS) Atlantic in Charlottet­own.

Large Moran has made many contributi­ons to the legal community generally and, specifical­ly, in the areas of dispute resolution, restorativ­e justice and aboriginal justice. Her contributi­ons to the legal community also include mediation work in human rights matters and her most recent work as an adjudicato­r in the Indian Residentia­l Schools Independen­t Assessment Process (IAP). Throughout her six years in this role, she travelled across the country, hearing and adjudicati­ng difficult cases of Indian residentia­l school survivors.

Large Moran is a member of the P.E.I. Law Society call to action committee stemming from the Truth and Reconcilia­tion Commission Report which, among the 94 calls to action, calls for members of the legal profession to undergo training on the history and legacy of residentia­l schools, intercultu­ral competency, conflict resolution, human rights and anti-racism.

Large Moran has also served as a director and vice-president of the ADR Institute of Canada and as a past- chairwoman of the Canadian Bar Associatio­n (CBA) Alternativ­e Dispute Resolution (ADR) P.E.I. Section. She is presently chairwoman of the CBA Aboriginal Law P.E.I. Section and instructs the ADR portion of the Law Society of P.E.I. bar admission course.

She is also an active member of “100 Women Who Care”, an organizati­on that supports local charities, and has served on the board of the P.E.I. division of the Canadian Cancer Society.
