Pancakes help the QEH
Holland College Hurricane’s Watch Club hosts event with proceeds for the QEH Foundation
The Holland College Hurricane’s Watch Club is hosting its first ever holiday pancake breakfast.
The event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2, 7-10 a.m., at the Sobeys Extra Community Room in Stratford.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the QEH Foundation in order to purchase equipment for the hospital. Tickets can be purchased at the QEH Foundation office, the college’s Centre for Community Engagement front desk, Sobeys and at the event.
As athletes, many of the Holland College students have had to make use of the QEH for various reasons, but one athlete was able to enjoy a stellar university and college athletic career thanks to the care she received at the Island’s main referral hospital.
In 2009, Kristyn Visser of Winsloe, who is her second year of the paramedic program at Holland College, suffered a serious speed skating accident that left her unable to fully use her right leg. It was unsure whether she would be able to walk or play sports again. However, the staff at the QEH made this a possibility, and Visser went on to play soccer and badminton for four years at Mount Allison University and last year played out her fifth year of collegiate eligibility with the soccer and badminton Hurricanes, helping her soccer team to an Atlantic championship.
The donations that come into the QEH Foundation office help patients in every way possible - getting more advanced equipment for tests, better treatment resources, etc. Everyone is invited out to the Saturday morning pancake breakfast to help support this cause.
