‘A Little Less Jingle’ features plenty of fun

A new dinner theatre production is coming to West Prince just in time for the Christmas party season.
“A Little Less Jingle” will be presented at the Mill River Resort every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night until Dec. 19.
“A Little Less Jingle” is written by Erin Dunn-Keefe, directed by Michele Oliver and Kirby Buote and starring Paul Shea.
Those are all familiar names from the Cousins Restaurant Dinner Theatres that were held in Tignish for 15 years.
Other cast members are Mike Ford, Helen LeClair, Cheryl Richard, Cathy Aylward and Tyler Gallant. Shea and Gallant were members of the cast of the Spirit of Stompin’ Tom dinner theatre which debuted this year at the Stompin’ Tom Centre in Skinners Pond.
Dinner theatre is a new adventure for Ford and LeClair, although both are well-known actors, Ford from productions in Tyne Valley and LeClair from plays in Tignish.
Shea says all the cast members are well prepared for the shows which get started today.
“Little lines pop in my head at different times of the day,” Richard said.
Still, said LeClair, she’s looking forward to her first opportunity to interact with the audience during the theatre and while serving the meal in character.
The shows will be one of the last activities for the Mill River Resort’s Hunter-Duvar room prior to scheduled renovations.
“It’s a perfect spot for dinner theatre,” remarked Shea.
It’s also been good for the cast, he added, noting a central location for rehearsing and performing for a dinner theatre that draws cast members from Tignish to Tyne Valley.
“A Little Less Jingle” brings the audience back to 1929 at Alfie’s Gin Joint. Christmas, of course, is approaching but with the stock market crash, there are hard times looming.
Boss Alfie has invested all of his money into the stock market. This has his sidekick Moneywise and savvy gal Sally worried they may lose their joint.
It doesn’t help their cause that maniacal Sister Bernadette is hell bent on turning the joint into a soup kitchen for the homeless.
The whacky cast also consists of Minnie, an aging and demented showgirl, who befriends Hank, a handsome handless hobo.
Will Alfie and Moneywise put the jingle back in Christmas, or will their beloved bar become a haven for the handsome and homeless?
Tickets to the dinner theatre are moving well with most Friday and Saturday shows already sold out, and the Thursday and Sunday shows now starting to fill up. Tickets can be booked at 1-844-375-3555.
