Christmas with friends
‘Christmas in Killarney’ at Harmony House Theatre
Two of P.E.I.’s most popular fiddlers will take the stage to kick of the third annual Christmas in Killarney on Sunday, Dec. 10, at Harmony House Theatre at 4 p.m.
Richard Wood and Courtney Hogan will be joined by guitarist Gordon Belsher for a matinee performance featuring foot stomping jigs, reels and romantic, warm songs of the holidays.
Hogan first called on her friends Wood and Belsher three years ago to join her on stage for this performance. (At the time it was to celebrate the launch of her new Christmas CD, “Holy Night”.)
It was such a success it has become a tradition for the group to gather every year in the award-winning performance venue.
“You could traditionally find any one of us playing through the summer nights in small community halls or local bars, but Harmony House definitely sets the atmosphere for a more intimate evening,” says Hogan, who says there’s nothing better than sharing the stage with her “favourite friends.”
Wood is the former fiddler for Shania Twain. He was also featured on the “David Letterman Show”, has played at Carnegie Hall and performed for the Prime Minister of Canada, Queen of England and Emperor of Japan.
wAdditionally he has represented Canadian music at the Epcot at Disney World and MacLean’s Magazine named him one of the “Top 100 Canadians to watch.”
Belsher has been entertaining audiences for more than 40 years performing at concerts, conventions and ceilidhs. He has accompanied Wood as he’s toured extensively across Canada, the U.S., the UK, Europe, Japan and Australia. Belsher was also the recipient of Music P.E.I.’s Lifetime Achievement award.
The afternoon consists of songs, storytelling and holiday music. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.harmonyhousetheatre.com or by calling 902 962-2255.
