Maxine MacLennan still recovering in hospital after car crash
Music community coming together to host fundraiser for Maxine MacLennan.
As all Island musicians know, there is always a cause which to donate one’s time and talents, be it a fundraiser for a charitable organization or for a fellow Islander who needs help because of illness.
And no one has given more of her time and talents over the past 40 years of her musical career than Treble with Girls band member Maxine MacLennan of Cardigan.
Almost one month after being hit head on in a motor vehicle accident, the popular singer/ songwriter is still a patient of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she is recovering from serious injuries including fractures in the lower vertebrae and neck and a broken sternum.
“She has started physio so hopefully with some luck she will be able to get home for Christmas, but it’s hard to say at this point if that will happen or not,” said band mate and friend, Sheila MacKenzie.
“She was extremely lucky. She definitely has a long road ahead of her, but that is so much better than a short road to the graveyard and it really could have gone that way. It was a very bad accident.”
Helping others has always been a priority for MacLennan.
From the early years of playing music in her father’s country band to her time spent in the Canadian country music scene, she has almost never said no to a benefit concert or fundraiser.
Even in her professional roles as a school bus driver and coordinator of the local Kings County SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) chapters in Montague, Souris and Morell, helping others has always been her main focus.
The musical community is now coming together to show its appreciation to MacLennan with a special fundraising and moral-raising concert tonight at 7pm at the Montague Regional High School Cafeteria.
The entertainers are her musical family Treble with Girls, Courtney-Hogan Chandler, Richard Wood, the Chaisson Trio, Jon Matthews and Hal Bruce.
The evening will include a 50/50 draw and fudge sale, with admission by donation.

“Her doctor said she was a miracle,” said MacKenzie. “And she’s really showing us how strong a superwoman she really is.”
