Four-point weekend for Wild

Kensington extends winning streak to five games

The Kensington Monaghan Farms made it back-to-back four-point weekends in the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League.

After winning sweeping two games last weekend, the Wild defeated the Fredericto­n Caps 5-1 on Sunday afternoon following a 6-5 win over the Saint John Vitos on Saturday night.

The second-place Wild has now won five games in a row, and six of its last seven games to improve to 14-5-1 (wonlost-overtime losses). Kensington has closed to within three points of the first-place Moncton Flyers (15-4-2) heading into Friday night’s showdown between the league’s top two teams in Moncton, N.B.

The Wild’s next home game is the annual Boxing Day clash versus provincial rival Charlottet­own Bulk Carriers Pride (7-10-2) at 7:30 p.m.

Wild 5, Caps 1

At Willie O’Ree Place in the New Brunswick capital, rookie Marc Richard had a goal and two assists to pace the Wild offensivel­y. Ryan Richards (2), Evan Gallant (1-1) and Colby MacArthur also scored while Thomas Rennie and Chandler Wood each contribute­d two helpers.

Max Grant netted the lone goal for Fredericto­n (6-15-0).

The Wild jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period, and took a 4-0 cushion into the final frame.

Rookie goaltender Chad Arsenault turned aside 34 of 35 shots to improved his undefeated record to 10-0 (won-lost) in regular-season season. Arsenault sports a 2.08 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.

Wild 6, Vitos 5

At Community Gardens, Gallant and rookie Chase Gaudette each scored two goals to lead the Wild versus Saint John in an entertaini­ng contest.

Rennie and Clark Webster also scored for the Wild while seven players –Richards (2), MacArthur (2), Richard (2), Wood, Bradley Campbell, Dixon MacLeod and Austin Callaghan – contribute­d assists.

Drew Johnson (2), Carter McCluskey, Blake Young and Kale McCallum replied for the Vitos (12-8-0).

The Wild held period leads of 3-1 and 4-2.

Caleb Coyle earned the goaltendin­g.
