Big weekend for Kings County Kings

Win pair of midget AAA contests

It was a big weekend for the Kings County Kings in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League.

The Kings posted a pair of home-ice victories – 3-2 over the Western Regals and 5-3 versus the league-leading Robins Mid-Isle Matrix – at the Eastern Kings Sportsplex.

The results leave the thirdplace Kings at 8-5-4 (won-losttied), four points in front of the fourth-place Regals (7-7-2) and one back of the second-place Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils (10-7-1).

In other action, the Albertonba­sed Regals salvaged a split of their two weekend games with a 4-1 win over the visiting Summerside Capitals at the Jacques Cartier Arena.

Kings 3, Regals 2

Ben MacIsaac, Ty Peardon and Jacob MacEachern lit the lamp for the Kings while Kalim DesRoches netted both goals for the Regals.

There was no score after one period, and the Kings were in front 2-1 at the end of two.

Ben Bruce earned the goaltendin­g win over Cole Gallant.

Regals 4, Capitals 1

Tristan Cahill and Ethan Oliver each scored twice for the Regals, who netted three unanswered third-period goals.

Parker Cameron answered for the Capitals, who led 1-0 after the first period.

Winning goaltender was Colin Gaudette. Carter Champion tended goal for Summerside.

Kings 5, Matrix 3

The Kings County squad, led by Peardon’s two goals and an assist, held period leads of 3-1 and 4-3.

Troy VanColen, Riley Jamieson and Jacob Outhouse rounded out Kings County’s scoring.

Nick Havenga (2) and David Sato answered for the Matrix (13-4-2).

Winning goaltender was Nicholas Jamieson. Matt Jelley was between the pipes for MidIsle.
