Students prepare for Christmas break
Charlottetown Rural High School
Students and staff of CRHS are wrapping up a very successful Rudolph Campaign that provides for families in need this holiday season. A variety of creative fundraising efforts, such as cake auctions, smoothie sales, Nintendo competitions, as well as a pie a teacher have been held over the last six weeks, raising enough to give to more than 30 families.
Additionally, students held a food drive at the school and will make a donation to the Charlottetown Food Bank.
Friday, Dec. 22 is the last day for students before the Christmas holidays. Classes will resume on Jan. 3.
The CRHS 2017 yearbook has arrived and is flying off the shelves. Pre-ordered books can be picked up at the office on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There are several copies still for sale if anyone hasn’t preordered.
The 2018 yearbook campaign is now underway. Orders are being taken online and through the office. The cost is $50 each. Personalized books can be ordered online for an additional $5 fee.
Congratulations to educational assistant Jennifer Mutch and her family on the safe arrival of Asher John Robert Lee. He was born on Dec. 10.
The 2018 Jack Frost Festival is currently looking for volunteers. Interested students can contact Emma MacKenzie at 604-819-3662.
Bluefield High School
Appreciation is expressed to students, families and staff for their generosity in this year’s Christmas Food Drive.
Graduates who did not have their picture taken by Heckbert Studios, Summerside when they were at the school will need to make an appointment with them to have their picture taken, if they want to be part of the graduation composite picture. Contact Mrs. Coughlin or Mrs. Ryan Koughan for questions regarding graduation pictures.
This week computer science students from Bluefield High School will spend a day introducing younger students to computer science and teaching coding as part of the Hour Of Code initiative. This initiative is designed to introduce students to computer science, to demystify ‘code’, to show that anybody can learn the basics and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. This Global initiative now takes place in over 180 countries and reaches tens of millions of students.
Bluefield students have partnered with all six schools in the Bluefield family of schools. Throughout the week they will be teaching introductory coding activities at Gulf Shore Consolidated, Central Queens Elementary, East Wiltshire Intermediate, Elliot River Elementary, Englewood and Westwood Primary.

Westisle Composite High School
Westisle’s Credit Union Fitness Centre is running CrossFit training on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3-3:45 p.m. Westisle is aiming to have the centre staffed on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the new year as well. All students are welcome.
Westisle has recently been approved for the Transitions program, alongside the Holland College West Prince Campus, beginning in February. This is a great opportunity for students to both explore what Holland College has to offer and earn two Grade 12 credits in the process. Students who pursue this will be recognized if they apply to Holland College.

Jan. 24 is the SLA for all grade 10s and the SMA/B/K for all Grade 11 students who are currently enrolled in Math. The rest of the exams will be written from Jan. 25-26 and 29-30. Kinkora Regional High School

The ever-popular Yuletide Yippeetime starts today with all kinds of fun contest activities. (These events take place at noon during the week prior to Christmas break.)
On Wednesday at noon a Christmas turkey dinner will be served to the entire student body. There is no charge.
The last day of class for 2017 is Dec. 22. The first day of class for 2018 is Jan. 3. Final exams run Jan. 24-30.
Colonel Gray High School
A welcome is extended to Colonel Gray’s newest staff member, Adam Gauthier, itinerant EAL teacher and Laura Stordy, an educational assistant working with EAL students.
Students enjoyed a special Christmas music performance on the morning of Dec. 14, following the previous night’s band concert.
On Dec 20, the Colonel Gray Making Waves Group, in partnership with the drama class, is making a presentation to the Grade 7 classes from Queen Charlotte. Skits and discussions will happen on healthy versus unhealthy relationships, sending inappropriate Internet pictures, home relationships, mental health, social media as well as relationships with adults in role model positions and newcomers trying to adjust.

Montague Regional High School
Dec. 22 is the last day of classes for 2017. Students will return to school on Jan. 3.
Students participated in an engaging S.A.V.E. week in December. Activities ranged from a photo booth, door decorating contest with an anti-violence message, purple ribbon day and random acts of kindness to an assembly on the importance of violence prevention, purple ribbon day and a display to remember the victims of the 1989 Montreal Massacre.
This month, students took part in a successful SADD week that included contracts for Life, a door-decorating contest, wear red day, and MADD red ribbon distribution.
