Taylor, Sadiku instructin­g at learn to wrestle night

The public will have a chance to learn about and try the sport of wrestling tonight.

A fun night of learn to wrestle will be held at Summerside Intermedia­te School from 7 to 9 p.m. All junior and senior high school students are welcome to participat­e.

Hannah Taylor and Ligrit Sadiku, both of Summerside, will be the instructor­s. Taylor is a five-time Canadian champion, Pan Am silver-medallist and a member of the Brock Badgers’ varsity wrestling team, which is ranked No. 1 in Canada. Sadiku is also a member of the Brock varsity wrestling team. He was the 2016 rookie of the year for U Sports wrestling. Anyone who may not be sure if they want to try wrestling is encouraged to come and watch a practice. Taylor and Sadiku will also be available to answer any questions.

There will be high performanc­e wrestling camp Saturday at Colonel Gray High School in Charlottet­own from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Island senior wrestlers involved in running the camp include Sadiku, Taylor, Veronica Keefe and Trevor Banks. Metros to a 6-3 victory over the to Eastern Maniacs Wednesday in Island Junior Hockey League action.

Nick Currie and Taylor Runighan each had a goal and an assist in the win while Barrington Duffy and Jordan Birt also scored. Dylan MacDonald had three assists while Cale Pierce chipped in one. Blake Jamieson scored twice for the Maniacs while Eddie Jenkins had a goal and an assist. Mike MacGregor and Tyler Rose each had two helpers.

Sam Walsh made 40 saves for the win while Cam Duffy allowed four goals on 21 shots in 27 minutes before being replaced by Noah Laybolt, who stopped 13 of 15 shots.
