Tyler’s Christmas story

-

Editor’s note: Christmas Magic, a collection of stories and artwork from students across Prince Edward Island, will be published in The Guardian throughout the holiday season. The first in the collection appeared in the Christmas Greetings edition inserted into the Dec. 20 edition of The Guardian. That edition can also be found online at www.theguardian.pe.ca.

It was Christmas Eve. I could see lights all the way home or as I should call it my bench. I was homeless- I didn’t have a nickel to spare. I was excited for Christmas because I had a pink little teddy bear for my sister and I knew she would like it. I got a blanket from someone. It was the best I had…

Now it’s Christmas, I gave the teddy to my sister and what she did was just stand there…then she closed the door… As I left on the way home, someone said “Merry Christmas” and gave me a donut and a glass of water. As my face brightened up she said follow me and we went to her house. She cleaned me up and let me stay for dinner.

A month later, she got me a job. I visit her house every Sunday because I have a job now… And a family. What I’m saying is be kind all the way till the end and you’ll get something in return.

Christmas time is magical!

Everywhere you go it looks like a winter wonderland

Children play in the winter snow while their cheeks turn bright red

They wait patiently until that special day comes

With those red, green and gold presents

What’s inside them nobody knows

On December 24th a jolly man visits their house

But no one can hear him because he is as quiet as a mouse

He brings toys for the children to play

And that’s why Christmas is a very special day!

What Christmas is really about

Christmas is not just about presents by the Christmas tree, stockings hung up on your fireplace, it is about spending time with your family and giving to others who aren’t as fortunate as us. It’s about joy and happiness. It’s a freezing, snowy time of the year, where you can sit back, relax and drink some warm hot cocoa, and have a magical Christmas.

Now you know what Christmas is really about! To me this is what an awesome Christmas looks like.

Christmas magic helps reindeer fly

Christmas is the most magical time of the year, but this year there was not enough Christmas magic and when there isn’t enough, the reindeer will not be able to fly and Christmas will be ruined. It’s Santa and all the elves job to bring joy to the world, so they started their journey across the snowy north pole. They went to Toronto to try to fill that place with some Christmas cheer. They were determined to make Christmas magic.

When they got there, they went to downtown and started singing some songs. By the end of the night, there was hundreds of people who were singing along. They went all across the world and did the same thing everywhere. When they were finished, people started chanting “more more!” By the time Christmas came, there was enough Christmas magic and the reindeer could fly.

Christmas was saved!

Help find my reindeers

Hello, it’s Santa speaking. I am here because we have an emergency. All nine of my reindeers are missing and there is only four days to Christmas. If you see anything please contact us at the North Pole ASAP.

Oh-no, oh-no, what will I do? Now there is only two days to Christmas and nobody has seen anything. It might be time to look for a substitute just in case! Hmm, there are a lot of options, but I think I will try to get the Lamborghini’s or the Bugatti’s. Great! Just great! They both are busy this Christmas.

I will have to leave in 1 hour if I want to make it to every house on time. Wait, there is something coming! Maybe more that 1 reindeer? Yes, yes, yes it is eight reindeer! I just knew they’d show up. They’ve never missed a Christmas. Where is Rudolph, I asked? He left us yesterday saying he is the leader and bossing us to come with him but we said no. OK, I’m going with what I have. Lets go! 3….2….1….Go! We’re in the air- here comes Rudolph and he just joined the ride! We are going to do it all on time and perfect after all.

I got my reindeers back. Kids will get their toys!

What Christmas is about

Some people think the true meaning of Christmas is getting presents, but it’s not. It is about spending time with your family and friends over the holiday. Christmas is about giving to others, not getting. It’s about presents from the heart, not gift-wrapped, store bought presents.

But the holiday is not always about presents, store bought or not. You can also cuddle up on a cold winter night and watch an Xmas movie, play outsidesnowball fights, sledding or just drink hot chocolate while reading a book. Now you know the true meaning of Christmas. Hannah Arsenault

When I heard Santa

I am going to tell you about my weird morning last Christmas.

When I woke up on Christmas morning, I was the first one up, and then I heard footsteps!

I whispered, “What the heck is that?”

Could it be mom? Could it be dad?

Wait a sec… could it be

Santa?

I was still listening to those footsteps.

Suddenly they stopped. What is going on here? I couldn’t wait to get out of bed!

A heartwarming tale

It was December 24, Christmas Eve and the Maple family were gathered around their sparkling Christmas tree. Mr. and Mrs. Maple held their two children, Anny and Robert tight. “You know what,” suddenly spoke Mr.Maple. “I think it’s time you heard this story.” “It was passed down generation to generation starting with your great great great great great grandpa.”

Once there was a small girl named Susan. She lived with her mother and her father. It was nearly Christmas time and the family had no decorations up. “Mother, may I ask you a question?” “Of course you may ask me anything my dear,” she replied. “Why can’t we put up any decorations?” The family had not much money, Susan could not get an education. They barely had enough money to buy their one room house. “Why can’t I go to school, why are we starving, why do we have only bread to eat, why…” “You know why darling. Your father could only get a job in the mines for $5 a year.” “We can not spend what we have for things we are not desperate for.” “Now run along to bed before you make yourself upset.”

The next day, Susan’s parents quickly woke her up. “Susan get up, there’s a fire!” Susan hopped right out of bed running towards the door. Susan’s father looked back. “Our savings box!” “If we don’t turn back we will have nothing!” Susan’s father then mother ran back into the burning house. “No!” cried Susan. “If you leave the box at least we’ll have our lives!” But it was too late. The small house had just burst into flames. “Why?” she cried. “Why.”

It had been an hour since the fire died. Susan was on her own, lying in the snow shelter she managed to make. Supporters had given her food but she still had no family. What will be left of me now, I have nothing, thought Susan. That thought made Susan even more upset. “I’m a homeless beggar and no one cares!” “Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and there is no one to spend it with!”

Susan had gone to the streets as usual to try to get money for food. “No one really cares anymore,” she thought. Everyone she tried to talk to completely ignored her. Then Susan saw an old lady wandering around. “What is she doing,” Susan thought. Later she noticed the old lady drop something. Susan ran to see what it was. When she got there, lying on the ground was a $20 bill. “Should I take it?” wondered Susan “But that would be stealing.” Susan found the old lady. “Excuse me miss, you dropped this. Susan handed the old lady the money. “You keep it,” said the old lady. “You might need it.” She smiled and walked away before Susan could thank her. Susan went to buy food and supplies to build a shelter. She smiled, after all it was Christmas Eve.

The next morning was not ordinaryit was Christmas morning. Susan went to town as usual as if the day was nothing special. The old lady was there again! This time, she came up to Susan. “I have been watching you since the day of the fire,” she said. “Really?” Susan was confused. “But I just met you yesterday.” “Never mind that.” “I was wondering if...if… would you like to come live with me?” Susan was even more startled. “You want me to live with you?” “Of course,” replied the old lady. And by the way, I’m Silvia. “Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

After that, Silvia adopted Susan. The two had a very happy life together. After all, a smile can go for miles.

“Wow!” commented the children. “I guess you liked it,” said Mr. Maple. “But there is a lesson,” started Mrs. Maple. “Don’t sob and feel sorry for yourself when you can make thing better.”
