Wild aim to reach 10 straight wins, Pride looks to build momentum

The Island’s major midget teams hit the road today for games on the mainland to start the new year.

The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild land in Bathurst, N.B., to face the Northern Moose and the Charlottet­own Bulk Carriers Pride tangle with the Vito’s in Saint John, N.B.

Start times for the New Brunswick-P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League games are 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., respective­ly.

Kensington (18-5-1) leads the six-team circuit and is riding a nine-game win streak, while Charlottet­own (8-11-3) is fourth.

The Moose (7-11-3) sits two points behind the Pride and the Vito’s (14-9) have the third spot.

Saint John’s Caleb Kean leads the league in goals (23), assists (24) and points (47), while teammate Zach Alchorn is third overall with 33 points. Kensington’s Frank Fortin is second in goals (21) and points (36).

Connor MacGregor tops the Pride’s scoring list with 12 goals and 17 points.

Kensington goalie Chard Arsenault (13-0) leads the league in wins and is second in goalsagain­st average (GAA) at 2.22. Vito’s netminder Rylan Holder has a 2.81 GAA, while Erik MacInnis (2.87 GAA) and Ben Parent (3.24 GAA) patrol Charlottet­own’s net.

Kensington hosts the secondplac­e Moncton Flyers (15-6-2) on Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., at Community Gardens. The Pride hosts the Vito’s Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Pownal in a makeup game from Dec. 23.
