CEILIDHS/JAMBOREES/ KITCHEN PARTIES
A ceilidh at the Kaylee Hall is Fridays, 8-11 p.m. Admission is $5. Music is by Jim Madsen, Donnie MacDonald, Jim Galpin and Elinor MacAulay.
Acoustic Music Jam is every Sunday, 2-8:30 p.m., with the next one Jan. 7, at the Acadian Musical Village (Expo-Centre) Abram-Village, organized by the Acadian Musical Village and Evangeline Bluegrass Festival. Admission is $3 (adults only) with supper served at 5 p.m. for $10. There is also a door prize and a 50/50 draw. For information, call 902-854-2324.
The regular monthly ceilidh is at Dunstaffnage School Centre on Jan. 7, 7 p.m., hosted by the Roadmasters’ Band, with Ivor Price, Wayne Diamond, Lou Doiron and Dave Moore. Guest entertainers include Millie MacDonald, Fenton MacSwain, Elaine O’Connor, Urban McAdam and fiddler Mary Smith. Admission is $8. There’s also a 50/50 draw and lunch. The centre is wheelchair accessible.
The first ceilidh of 2018 at Winsloe United Church is Jan. 8, 7:30 p.m. (storm date, Jan. 22). Host Colleen MacPhee welcomes back former host Larry Campbell as well as guest drummer Billy Matthews. This is a fundraiser for the church, which is wheelchair accessible and offers plenty of parking. There will be a light lunch served. Admission is $10 at the door with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Weather updates will be provided on the Winsloe United Church Facebook page.
Old Time Music Acoustic Jams are Wednesdays, 6:30-9 p.m., at the Murphy Community Centre, Richmond Street, Charlottetown (not held on holidays and storm days). An informal, acoustic traditional music session is Thursdays, 7-9 p.m., at the Old Triangle, Charlottetown. Players and dancers are welcome.
Helping Hands Band jamborees are held at St. Anthony’s Hall, Route 2. Woodstock, with the next one Jan. 13, 7 p.m., with funds raised supporting local charities.
CONCERTS
Got Blues Matinee is Saturdays, 2:30-4:30 p.m., at The Factory Cookhouse, 189 Kent St., Charlottetown, hosted by Got Blues (Chris Roumbanis and friends Reg Ballagh and Mike Robicheau). Each week there is a special guest, and the second set is always an electric blues jam. On Jan. 6, there is a Chuck Berry tribute with singer/ guitarist James Phillips.
A bluegrass and acoustic music concert, featuring the Arsenault Brothers, is Jan. 8, 7-9 p.m., at the Summerside Legion. Open mike performers, 7-7:30 p.m., have free admission. Admission for everyone else is $5. There is also a 50/50 draw and door prize.
Lively Songs for Little People
by Michael Pendergast (the Music Man) are casual drop-in shows with a small family-friendly rate, movements, songs, dance and humour. They are Tuesdays, 10:45 a.m., in the food court of Confederation Court Mall and Thursdays at the Stratford Town Hall gym, 10:45 a.m.
Canadian guitar virtuoso Nick Johnston

Winterjazz fundraising concert

The QEH concert series continues at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Hall, 151 Stratford Rd., Stratford, Jan. 14, 2 p.m., hosted by Treble with Girls, with special guest Keelin Wedge. Enjoy an afternoon of familyfriendly music and fun to raise funds for the 22nd annual QEH/ Eastlink Telethon for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. The Caledonian Club’s annual Robbie Burns Concert is Jan. 19, 7 p.m., at the Carrefour Theatre in Charlottetown (storm date, Jan. 20). Tickets are at the door.
A winter concert-ceilidh series will kick off at Trinity United Church, 90 Spring St., Summerside, on Jan. 21, 2 p.m. The concerts will be held on the third Sunday afternoon of each month from January to May. Evangeline Recreation Centre, Acadian Musical Village and Mont Carmel Parish hold a Chase the Ace draw every Friday at Acadian Musical Village, AbramVillage. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the draw at 9 p.m. There is an estimated $19,000 in 37 cards. Entertainment for Jan. 5 is Jonathan and Louise Arsenault, 8-10 p.m. There is free admission. He won’t let the depressed man leave, without following him. He feels he’s in this situation for a reason, decided by God. It’s an intense chamber play about belief or unbelief and a conversation about what’s true and important in life or not. Tickets are available through The Guild box office.
