Holland College men’s and women’s teams resume ACAA season this weekend

The Holland College Hurricanes volleyball teams return to the court this weekend when the second half of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Associatio­n (ACAA) season begins.

Holland College has hosting duties against the St. Thomas Tommies today and Sunday in Charlottet­own.

Today’s action kicks off at 4 p.m. with the women’s game, followed by the men’s game at 6 p.m. Things continue on Sunday with games at noon and 2 p.m., for the women and men, respective­ly.

The women’s Hurricanes (4-2) sit in fourth place in the standings, while St. Thomas (6-2) is in a tie for second place.

This is the first time the team have played this season in women’s action.

Megan LeBlanc leads Holland College in kills (56), kills per set (2.67), errors (37) and total attempts (188), while Brittany States leads in hitting percentage (.343), total blocks (8), blocks per set (.38), points (73) and points per set (3.5).

Gracie Ferguson is third overall in assists with 143 and Dana Trainor leads the ACAA in digs (79) and dig per set (3.76).

On the men’s side, Holland College owns a league-best 6-0 record. STU (2-3) is in third place. The Hurricanes lead the season series 2-0.

Marcus Lapointe tops the ‘Canes in digs (41) and digs per set (2.05), while Brett Butler leads the ACAA in kills (74), kills per set (3.89), errors (28), total attempts (166), points (88) and points per set (4.6). Nate Archibald has a league-best 139 assists.
