Pride wins, Wild loses opening games

Attack victorious in major bantam action

It was a day of mixed results for P.E.I.’s two major midget entries in the Chronicle Herald East Coast Ice Jam hockey tournament in Bedford, N.S.

The Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride blanked the Central IcePak 5-0 while the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild dropped a 4-3 decision to Pictou County.

In major bantam AAA action, the Prince County Warriors lost 4-3 to the ACCEL Hawks; the Novas blanked the Eastern Express 3-0, and the Central Attack edged the Western Hurricanes 3-2. The Mid-Isle Matrix played the Central IcePak in a late game Thursday.

Pride 5, IcePak 0

The Pride, who received shutout goaltending from Ben Parent, scored two goals in each of the first two periods to take control of the game.

Drew Bowman, Kennedy Gallant, Riley MacDougall and Shaul Mitton each scored once and added an assist.

Connor McGregor also scored while Dylan Matthews, Gage MacWilliams and Logan Kelly-Murphy were credited with helpers.

The pride plays Tri Pen Osprey today at 9 p.m.

Pictou County 4, Wild 3

Frank Fortin scored two power-play goals to stake the Wild to a 2-1 lead after the first period, and the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of two.

Chad Arsenault was Kensington’s goaltender.

The Wild returns to action on today against the Rothesay Netherwood Riverhawks at 11:30 a.m.

Hawks 4, Warriors 3

The Warriors trailed 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 at the end of two, before a third-period rally fell just short.

Frederick Morency (1-1), Donovan Arsenault and Liam Greenan scored for the O’Learybased Warriors. Carson Wood and Colby MacDonald chipped in with assists.

Aiden Williams tended goal for Prince County.

The Warriors play the Novas today at 1:15 p.m.

Novas 3, Express 0

The Novas built period leads of 1-0 and 3-0.

Drew Chapman handled the goaltending duties for the Express, which plays the Hawks today at 4:45 p.m.

Attack 3, Hurricanes 2

Three different players – Alex Graham, Reid Vos and Josh Lund scored for the Attack. John MacKinnon (2), Jacob Squires (2), Kal White and Matthew McQuaid chipped in with assists.

Central led 2-0 after the first and second periods.

Winning goaltender was A.J. Cooper.

The Attack plays the Bedford Barons today at 8:45 a.m.
