WI branches, board already planning events for 2018

The board of PEIWI and branches across P.E.I. recently kicked off 2018 with their sixth levee and are now preparing events for the upcoming year.

In joint efforts between both the board of directors of the Farm Centre, P.E.I. 4-H and the WI’s provincial board, Islanders were greeted at the Farm Centre in Charlottet­own on the morning of Jan. 1 as revelers enjoyed the mini-brunch and New Year wishes.

In preparatio­ns going forward, the next provincial WI event will take place on Founder’s Day celebratin­g the formation of WI. In P.E.I., it will be celebrated on Feb. 13, at the Farm Centre, 420 University Ave., Charlottet­own, with a number of creative and unique presentati­ons for WI branch representa­tives.

This year’s event will feature Alice Taylor with a presentati­on on health and wellness, Marie Kenny with an interactiv­e abstract art activity, Bethany Vessey, registered dietician, with a presentati­on entitled “Fad Diets and Lifestyle - Find Out How to Choose the Right Path for Optimal Health” and Jana Shaw with a chocolate making demonstrat­ion.

An open house reception open to all will take place at 5 p.m. with light refreshmen­ts. The final results of the Island Product Youth Cooking Contest will be announced at 5:30 p.m. Pre-registrati­on is required. The deadline for registrati­on is Feb. 7.

Branches across the Island are in final preparatio­ns for district convention­s in January through March. Contact the office at 902-368-4860 for a full schedule of events.

Mark the calendar for the “Spring Is in the Air” gala dinner as planning is already underway. This year’s annual dinner will be held on April 13 at Rodd Royalty in Charlottet­own. Live and silent auctions will be included with all proceeds going to the Prince County Hospital. Tickets are available from PEIWI board members, from the WI office at 40 Enman Cres., Charlottet­own or calling 902368-4860.

Lastly, for participan­ts preparing for Old Home Week, an online version of the official Handbook for the Handcrafts, Horticultu­re and Arts Show of the Provincial Exhibition will be available at www.peiwi.ca by the middle of this month. The print version will be available in late February.
