MACPHEE, Ella Mary Theresa

-

Passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on January 18, 2018, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I. on May 6 1928, to the Honourable H.F. MacPhee, K.C., and Loretta (Leonard) MacPhee.

Mary attended Saint Dunstan’s and St. Francis Xavier Universities, earning a degree in dietary science. Mary had a successful career as a dietician in Ottawa and Montreal. She had a strong, independent and generous spirit, and enjoyed many adventures travelling throughout the world. Mary always returned to her beloved Keppoch Beach in P.E.I. each summer, and she rarely missed her daily swim. Mary was predeceased by her parents, and by her dear sister Eileen MacPhee Gallivan. She is survived, and will never be forgotten, by Eileen’s children, Daniel Gallivan (Nancy Vanstone) Halifax; Patricia Gallivan (Peter Reardon), Vancouver; Paula Maguire (Michael), Bermuda; and, Susan Holdom (Terry), Vancouver. “Aunt Mary” will also be remembered with love by her grand-nieces, Kimberly, Lindsay, Erin, Rebecca, Jessica, Sophia and Jenna, and her grand-nephews, Kyle and Daniel. She will be missed by her great-grand-nieces, Grace, Maeve, Sadie and Elise, who represent the beginning of the fifth generation to enjoy Mary’s favourite beach. Mary embraced life and was committed to learning, taking up the violin, and courses such as astrology at UPEI in recent years. She will be remembered for her compassion, always placing the needs of others ahead of her own. The family would like to thank the caring people at Andrews of Stratford for their support of Mary over the past three years. Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 25, 2018 at St. Dunstan’s Basilica, Charlottetown, at 10 a.m. A reception will follow the service. Internment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the website of the Hennessey Funeral Home at www. islandowned.ca.
