Workshop on meditation tonight

-

Meditate rather than Medicate, a Yoga Ink workshop, will be held today, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Health Within Holistic Centre, 500 B Queen St., Charlottetown.

It is open to anyone from beginners to experienced yoga practitioners and meditators, and will be led by Ruth Richman.

Benefits of a meditation practice are increased immune function, decreased depression, decreased stress, increased ability to multi-task successfully, increased focus and attention, increased memory and a boost to self-esteem.

Meditation is a focused practice similar to many other practices; every day it may be a bit different, but it needs to practised every day.

There are many ways to meditate – and the workshop will explore several – including silent and with sound, still and with movement. The workshop will be in the Kundalini yoga tradition. A Zen Buddhist teacher once said, “You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day. Unless you are too busy, then you should sit for an hour.” It has been proven that meditators need less sleep and sleep more deeply than non-meditators. It has also been proven that people that have a regular meditation practice make better use of the time when they are not meditating and are more productive Therefore, a 20-minute daily meditation practice will pay one back in many ways.

Pre-registration is suggested as there is a maximum number the room will hold. Email Ruth Richman at yogaink@icloud. com or call her at 902-969-3102. This workshop is part of a series of six workshops on yoga and related topics held in January and February. For information about the series go to www.yogaink.com
