Roberts, MacArthur ignite Caps

Rookie from Kensington nets hat trick in road win over Aces

Cameron Roberts and Brodie MacArthur held the hot hands for the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals on Saturday night.

Roberts, who is from Kensington, scored a hat trick while MacArthur, a Summerside native in his second season with the Caps, contribute­d a goal and three assists in a 7-1 road win over the St. Stephen Aces in Maritime Junior Hockey League play.

The Caps, who sit second in the Eastlink North Division at 23-13-1-0, host the Aces in a makeup game at Eastlink Arena on Tuesday, and the Miramichi Timberwolv­es (19-12-2-3) visit Summerside on Thursday. Both games are 7 p.m. starts.

Before 696 fans at the Garcelon Civic Centre, Chris Chaddock, Austin Taylor and Josh MacDonald also lit the lamp for the Capitals. T.J. Shea (2), Jesse Annear, Zach Thususka, Jordan Spence and Morgan MacDonald chipped in with assists.

Matt Berrigan netted the lone goal for the Aces (9-26-0-1).

Alex Bishop made 31 saves in recording the win, and the Caps outshot the Aces 46-32. Jack Grant was between the pipes for St. Stephen.

Shea extended his pointscori­ng streak to 31 games, and MacArthur has now recorded at least a point in 23 straight games.

Shea leads the 12-team circuit with 88 points — 34 goals and 54 assists — while MacArthur is second with 61 points on the strength of 22 goals and 39 assists.

Roberts, who is still eligible to be playing midget hockey, upped his point total to 31 — 15 goals and 16 assists — in 37 games.

Shea, MacArthur and Roberts, who play on the same line and combined for nine points against the Aces, are all products of the Kyle Dunn-coached Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild major midget program.
