The Atlantic Police Academy has a new executive director.

Forrest Spencer, a 28-year RCMP veteran and native Prince Edward Islander, was sworn in Monday.

Spencer has a bachelor of arts degree and a certificat­e in police leadership and is working toward a designatio­n as a chartered profession­al in human resources. He served as a member of the RCMP for almost three decades, most recently as chief superinten­dent and director general responsibl­e for the executive/officer developmen­t and resourcing unit in Ottawa.

“I am really looking forward to working with the team to build on the positive training that is already being undertaken at the Atlantic Police Academy,” Spencer said.

“I think that training women and men who have made the conscious decision to serve their fellow Canadians is extremely important and I am excited to be part of that.”

“We are pleased to have such an esteemed and experience­d profession­al joining us to lead the Atlantic Police Academy,” said Holland College president Brian McMillan.

“We are confident that Mr. Spencer’s expertise in policing, and his excellent administra­tive and leadership skills will serve him well in his new position.”
