Oh Robin Hood, where art thou?

This is not a letter to run down or boost up politics, nor is it a letter of any religious value so it may not be of interest to you. However, here goes.

Over the last number of years, I have been very intrigued by the wonderful woodcarvings of our master woodcarver, Levi Cannon. He has created so many beautiful carvings and should be given heaps of praise for all that he has accomplished. Each year I visit all the sites and marvel at the way they are so expertly done.

However, I do have one small complaint. When the statue of Robin Hood was placed on site at the entrance of Sherwood right next to the bypass, it was so lifelike and so pleasant to look at. Each morning on my way to work, it was there watching over us, so to speak.

I also know that vandals did not treat it with respect and this was certainly not poor Robin Hood’s fault but when they replaced him with a new Robin Hood, it nearly broke my heart. Gone was the figure from my storybook with his bow and arrow and green clothing that blended in with our environment but there came a black figure, features hard to define, scary clothes, etc. More suited to a Halloween party than the traditional Robin Hood.

Where is our beloved Robin Hood gone? I realize that the coating that is on him now is a protection from the elements but it would also scare anyone from entering our Sherwood Forest. Am I the only one that would like to give him a new coat of paint?
