P.E.I. MP Wayne Easter re-elected as Canada-U.S. group co-chairman
“These meetings with members of all political parties in attendance provide us with the opportunity to improve our relationship with the United States to help both our economies grow, as well as allowing us the opportunity to address contentious issues head on.’’
Prince Edward Island’s Wayne Easter has been re-elected as the co-chairman of the Canada-United States Parliamentary Group.
The Malpeque MP, a longtime member of the group, was first elected co-chairman in February 2016. The other current co-chairman is Sen. Michael MacDonald from Nova Scotia.
Easter says the group will have a busy year ahead meeting with all levels of government in the U.S. and Canada to build on political relationships important to foster trade and strengthen the economic ties between the two countries around mining, softwood lumber, agriculture, fisheries, transportation corridors, tourism and public health.
Easter and other members of the group will travel to Washington, DC, later in February to attend the National Governors Association meeting to discuss issues such as NAFTA.
“These meetings with members of all political parties in attendance provide us with the opportunity to improve our relationship with the United States to help both our economies grow, as well as allowing us the opportunity to address contentious issues head on,” said Easter.
Established in 1959, the group meets with senators and congressional representatives, state legislators and private and public-sector agents from various regions, to address matters of concern to both countries.
