Dr. Megan Bernard offers free health education series in Summerside

-

A series of free health-related educational sessions will continue in Summerside on Monday, Feb. 12, with a presentation on sleep.

It will be held from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Summerside Rotary Library, inside the Inspire Learning Centre. Cost: Free

Targeted audience: Individuals with trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or just not feeling rested

The topic of the educational session is sleep and energy. It will examine the issues of trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or not feeling rested in the morning.

To be discussed:

What are the stages of sleep? What causes insomnia? Why can’t I fall asleep? Why can’t I stay asleep? Why am I not rested in the morning?

How much sleep do I need? What are natural options for improving sleep?

The session is geared mainly towards women 20 years of age and above with sleep issues. This would be the busy moms, go-getters, hard workers, the burnt out, and the “I simply cannot sleep” people. Men are welcome too.

Sleep has a huge impact on mood, metabolism, thinking, libido, the immune system, memory, and balance. Furthermore, poor sleep quality can have a negative impact on diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Because of a poor night’s sleep, many suffer through the drowsiness and carry about your day, wishing that you had more energy to enjoy time spent with family and friends and to put towards your passions.

A lot of people don’t know that there are evidence-based natural therapies, nutrition options, and lifestyle changes that can alleviate their symptoms. In this educational session Dr. Megan Bernard will cover natural options for sleep, and attendees will go home with a better understanding of what happens when we sleep, how sleep affects our quality of life, and how to improve sleep quality and restfulness using lifestyle strategies and natural therapies.

The session will be followed with a Q&A (and questions will be taken throughout the presentation) and attendees are welcome to stick around to meet the doctor.
