Miltonvale Park marks Family Violence Prevention Week

-

Family Violence Prevention is the focus of activities at Milton Community Hall on Monday, Feb. 12, as the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park marks Family Violence Prevention Week.

The hall will be encircled with a huge purple ribbon, and inside on Monday at 10:30 a.m., residents and friends will gather to make reversible fleece blankets to be donated to Anderson House for their clients.

At noon, Gloria Dennis, outreach co-ordinator for Queens County with P.E.I. Family Violence Prevention Services, will speak at a Lunch and Learn session. Lunch will be provided to those who pre-register at admin@miltonvalepark.com or 902-368-3090 by Friday, February 9.

A supportive network is crucial to people and Miltonvale Park provides many opportunities to meet people and lead a healthy lifestyle. Exercise classes take place at the Milton Community Hall on Mondays and Fridays at 9 a.m., and people regularly drop in for coffee and conversation following exercise. Monday afternoons at 1:30, Margot Postma leads line dancing classes, with, where drop-ins are always welcome. Also taking place on February 12, at 7:00 p.m., home economist Margaret Prouse will be sharing recipes and demonstrating “Healthy Snack Ideas” before the North Milton Women’s Institute finishes the jam-packed day with their monthly meeting.

“These non-stop activities on Monday, February 12, illustrate how we are trying to build a healthy, active, caring community.” says Mayor Hal Parker, as reviewed the many opportunities people have to get involved in community events.

“A strong social network helps people stay healthy and happier,” notes Parker, “and we are delighted with the success of recent community offerings, like the history book, Canada 150 Story book, Lunch and Learns, yoga, exercise, line dancing and art classes.”
