Sagueneens forced to move into temporary home
The Chicoutimi Sagueneens will play their next six games in a alternate arena while their home rink, the Georges Vezina Centre, is closed over concerns about its roof.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced Monday that six games will be played across town at the 3,200-seat Palais des Sports de Saguenay, starting with a visit Saturday from the Quebec Remparts.
Games against Shawinigan, Val d’Or, Rimouski, Halifax and Drummondville will also be played at the alternate site.
Last week, a game against Drummondville was postponed to March 5 when an engineering firm doing an evaluation of the aging 4,724-capacity Georges Vezina Centre raised concerns about the condition of the roof.
The municipality ordered the building to be closed for three weeks.
The city and the Quebec government are studying plans for a new arena.
