Tax fairness comes with price

-

I was not surprised by the recent audits of the servers’ tip money by the CRA. One of the platforms the Liberals campaigned on was tax fairness.

They did this by alluding to big corporations and the wealthy, while not mentioning their true intention was to scrape every cent, from every citizen, in every profession in Canada.

After getting elected, the Liberals gave the CRA the green light to close many, long-standing tax loopholes while implementing tax audits on anyone they deemed not paying their fair share or cheating on their tax sheet. This included fishers, farmers, small businesses and serving staff just to name just a few. I’m sure there is more coming.

In a recent interview, MP Sean Casey states, “The CRA is independent of government” operating at arm’s-length. What he didn’t say, was that it is the Liberal Tax Fairness Platform that triggered these audits and changes in policy. So, running to your local MP is useless.

Casey also stated that interfering with the CRA would be tantamount to interfering in a criminal investigation. However, this arm’slength policy did not prevent the prime minister and his minister of justice from inserting their thoughts into the criminal trial results in Saskatchewan.

So beware. Voting for someone charismatic while thinking their policies won’t apply to you is foolhardy. You have to read between the lines and hear what is not said to get the true meaning.
