Weekly programs in full swing in children’s library

Never fear parents, regular weekly programs are in full swing in the children’s library.

For the ever-ready-to-read preschool crowd, Family Storytime is Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 11 a.m. For littler ones, Toddler Time is Thursdays, 10:30 a.m., and Wiggle, Giggle, Read for babies is at 1:30 p.m.

Special story times, celebratin­g Black History Month, are Feb. 20 at 1:30 p.m. and Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. Enjoy “The Patchwork Path” by Bettye Stroud and create your own freedom patch. Also for Black History Month, the library is offering Baraka crafts (bean mosaics) on March 16 at 2 p.m.

Other weekly programs include Comic Club on Saturdays, 12:30 p.m., and Lego Club, Sundays, 2 p.m.

Get ready to make a birdhouse to help welcome new friends to the yard at Craft Club on March 6 at 6:30 p.m.

March is Canadian Agricultur­al Literacy Month with a special family story time on March 11 at 11 a.m. Flory from Island Hill Farms will be the special guest, along with some furry friends.

The monthly puppet show is going green for Saint Patrick’s Day. Check out “Can I Play, Too” and “The Luck of the Irish” March 14, 10:30 a.m. A family story time is immediatel­y following.

Practise bendy, stretchy skills with yoga stories for ages 4-11 on Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Upcoming programs for teens include the regular Saturday Drop-in-Drawing at 1:30 p.m. MakerSpace for Teens March 10 at 2 p.m. will feature a surprise craft.

To celebrate Black History Month, Scott Parsons and friends will be in the main section of the library on Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. presenting songs and stories. February is also Psychology Month, which aims to teach Canadians how psychology works and to help them live healthy and happy lives.

On Feb. 17, 2 p.m., Dr. Christine Beck will talk about traumatic brain injury and concussion and how a psychologi­st can help. Dr. Magna Pietruch will discuss breathing strategies for relaxation on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. On Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., Dr. Rhonda Matters will discuss triple P-positive parenting.

On Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. learn about debt management and repayment tips with the financial literacy series.

Islander Day is Feb. 19 so the library will be closed for people to stay home and contemplat­e this great province. One exciting part of this great province is its natural heritage. To learn more about it, be at the library today at 7 p.m. when Parks Canada will be discussing restoring Acadian forest species in the National park.

Starting Feb. 27, the library will be partnering with the Arthritis Society to offer a sixweek Senior Lifestyle Makeover Challenge. Education sessions and guest speakers will be offered every Tuesday at 1 p.m. Call the Arthritis Society at 1-800-321-1433 to register or for more informatio­n.

Did you know that the library offers all of these programs free of charge? Want to help support our programs and get some amazing deals? Come on down to the Friends of the Confederat­ion Centre Library book sale. There are fiction books, cookbooks, health books, travel books, kid’s books, movies, history books and tables full of books. Money raised goes to support programs and helps to purchase supplies and equipment. The sale runs from March 9 at noon to March 11 at 3 p.m., and inventory is replenishe­d throughout the sale. Can’t wait to see you there.
