Kensington, Western score identical 4-2 home wins over visitors in IJHL action

Home ice was nice to the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers and the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings in identical 4-2 wins Sunday in Island Junior Hockey League play.

The Vipers outdid the Eastern Maniacs (6-21-1) in Kensington, while the Wings doubled the Metros (17-14-1) in AbramVilla­ge.

Western upped its leaguelead­ing record to 19-8-2, while third-place Kensington went to 13-15-4.

Vipers 4, Maniacs 2

Parker Ronahan (1-1) netted the game-winning goal and Garrett Murray (1-2) potted the insurance marker in the win.

Riley Gallant (1-1) and Jacob Stewart had the other Vipers goals, while Jesse Jay chipped in two assists.

Alex Gallant and Blake Jamieson (1-1) scored the Maniacs goals. Hunter MacIntyre tallied two assists.

Rett Rook earned the win over Cam Duffy.

Eastern outshot Kensington 43-42 and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Kensington led 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 at the second intermissi­on.

Red Wings 4, Metros 2

Three, third-period goals proved the catalyst for the Wings win in Abram-Village.

Chasse Gallant scored two of his three goals in the decisive frame, the hat trick goal came with two minutes left in the third, while Jason Gallant chipped in a single score.

Jason Gallant (3) and Alex Morrisey (2) tallied multi-assist games for the Wings.

Pat McGuigan and Taylor Runighan netted the Metros markers.

Cale Pierce had two assists. Luke Oliver notched the win over Alex Kelly.

The Metros outshot the Wings 37-36 and went 1-for-6 on the power play.

Western was 1-for-4 with the extra man.

The Metros led 1-0 at the first intermissi­on, but Western had a 3-1 edge after two periods.
