Giant Tiger donates undergarments to Anderson House

-

To celebrate the launch of its new women’s intimates line, Carisma, Giant Tiger is donating comfort bras and briefs to Anderson House.

This donation is part of a larger donation of $10,000 in Carisma product to women’s shelters in each province Giant Tiger calls home.

Product worth $1,300 was donated to P.E.I.

Karen Sterling, vice-president of marketing for Giant Tiger Stores Ltd., said the company champions women and the community.

“With our core customer being Canadian women, we want to make sure we are supporting causes that are important to them. Giant Tiger has a long-standing history of supporting female-centric charitable organizations.”

Danya O’Malley, executive director of the P.E.I. Violence Prevention Services, said it’s wonderful when businesses recognize the needs of citizens and “take steps to help ease the burden”.

“Women who are moving on from abuse often have to cope with a sudden loss of resources with a dramatic increase in their expenses. Everything that we can provide to women for free means more dollars for essentials like rent, child care, transportation and other necessities,” she said.

“We are very grateful for new items when they are donated because everyone deserves to feel comfortable and cared for when seeking safety.”

Anderson House is a provincial emergency shelter for women and children seeking safety because of violence in their lives.

Services available 24 hours a day, seven days a week include emergency shelter, safety planning, advocacy, childcare services, drop-in support, follow-up support and referrals to outreach services and second stage housing.

Giant Tiger Charlottetown’s store manager, Shane Demmings, is excited to be helping the shelter.

“Anderson House is more than just a shelter for these women. It offers programs that allow them to rebuild their confidence while providing them with the skills they need to get back on their feet. We are proud to know that this donation will make a difference in the lives of women in our community.”
