Two prohibited drivers apprehended by RCMP in Stratford in two days

-

Two drivers are facing a number of charges, including driving while prohibited, after being stopped in Stratford on March 13 and 14.

On March 13, 9:05 p.m., an officer who had a vehicle stopped, recognized an individual who is prohibited from driving, driving a vehicle west on Highway #1 in Stratford towards the Hillsborough Bridge.

The member stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver. The licence plate on the vehicle had been reported as having been stolen from another vehicle.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from Stratford, faces charges of driving while prohibited and possession of stolen property. He was also served summary offence tickets for several offences, including driving without insurance and operating an unregistered vehicle.

The man has a number of previous driving while prohibited charges, including one laid after he was stopped by an RCMP member near the Hillsborough Bridge on Feb. 28.

The driver has been remanded into custody, and his next appearance in court will be today.

On March 14, the same officer checked the licence plate of a vehicle that he encountered while on patrol in Stratford.

The check revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle was a prohibited driver.

The vehicle was stopped on the Stratford Road.

The driver, a 28-year-old woman also from Stratford, was prohibited from driving and believed to be in violation of a probation order.

She was arrested and later released and will be facing charges of driving while prohibited and breaching a probation order when she appears in Charlottetown Court on April 11.

Driving while prohibited occurs too often in Prince Edward Island, says the RCMP, who urges anyone aware of someone driving while prohibited to contact local RCMP office or pass the information on to Crimestoppers at 1-800222-8477.
