Breaking out in song

-

The second edition of “Songs of Sirens” will take place today at 8 p.m. in The Guild in Charlottetown.

Singers will break out into solos, duos and trios for an evening of songs ranging from musical theatre, to folk, pop and jazz. Singers will be joined by Stephanie Cole at the piano, along with other special musical guests. Ensemble members come together to perform songs from Imogen Heap and Wailin’ Jennys and more. There will also be a silent auction with a number of fantastic prizes from local businesses and artisans.

Tickets for “Songs of Sirens” can be purchased through The Guild box office on the corner of Queen and Richmond Streets, over the phone (902-620-3333) or online at www.theguildpei.com.

All proceeds are in support of Sirens’ programming and educational outreach, including the ensemble’s trip to Podium 2018 in Newfoundland. Podium is Canada’s choral conference and festival and Sirens is thrilled to represent Prince Edward Island at this national event.

Named after the singing femmes fatales of Greek mythology, Sirens is an award-winning women’s choral ensemble based out of Charlottetown. Under the artistic direction of Kelsea McLean, the group has developed a strong following of supporters and has been lauded for its pure tone quality, sensitive musicality and tight ensemble.

The group produces two fulllength concert programs each season while maintaining a busy schedule performing at a variety of concerts, fundraisers, events and workshops.

A recipient of several awards at the local and provincial music festivals in 2015, Sirens earned the Richard W. Cooke award at the FCMF National Music Festival, placing first in the Choral Ensemble Class. That same year, Sirens also received a nomination for Music P.E.I.’s award for achievement in classical or jazz.
