Man charged after fleeing police
A 28-year-old Charlottetown man is facing charges and more than $1,200 in fines after he allegedly fled the police Sunday.
The RCMP reported that at about 2:30 p.m. it received a 911 call from a motorist reporting someone driving erratically in the Cherry Valley area.
Stratford RCMP spotted the vehicle as it came into Stratford and they tried to stop it.
The driver sped away and turned into a residential subdivision.
The RCMP said for safety reasons they stopped their attempt to pull the vehicle over but found it soon after parked at a residence in Stratford.
They arrested the driver and impounded his vehicle.
He is facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act for allegedly driving while his licence was suspended, operating an unregistered vehicle and for driving a vehicle with no insurance.
The fines for those offences totaled $1,225.
He is also facing a criminal charge for failing to stop for police and is scheduled to appear in court April 16.
Const. Jamie Parsons said the RCMP often finds drivers with no insurance on their vehicles, which, in many cases, are unregistered and sometimes aren’t safe to be on the road.
“Not only is it illegal, it can also have serious consequences if someone is hurt or killed by an uninsured driver,” he said.
