“If it’s not right for your father to be doing it… what are you doing drinking? Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?” Chief provincial court Judge Nancy Orr

A judge urged a 14-year-old girl convicted of assaulting a fellow ringette player to stop drinking and to focus on school.

Chief provincial court Judge Nancy Orr placed the teen on 18 months of probation for the assault.

The court heard the teenager, who cannot be identified because of her age, started drinking at age 12 and that her recent attendance in school is “almost non-existent.’’

Orr also was blunt in addressing the teen for voicing a great deal of concern about her father’s drinking.

“If it’s not right for your father to be doing it…what are you doing drinking? Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?’’ she said.

Orr told the teen to build on the positives in her life and put the negative incident behind.

And the assault certainly was a nasty affair.

The teen and the victim were on opposing teams during a ringette game.

The teen had three penalties and got kicked out for a hit to the head with intent to injure.

After the game, the victim was going off the ice and the teen made a comment to her that the victim ignored.

The teen eventually tackled the victim and assaulted her.

She said she was on top of the victim punching her and estimated it took 20 parents to break them up. She said it was a stupid mistake.
