Independent MLA offers assistance

-

I was surprised and pleased that the leader of the opposition mused about replacing the party system on P.E.I. Also, that the leader of the third party is open to a full discussion. As the only independent member of the legislative assembly, I would encourage well-respected community leaders in the other 26 districts to consider running as an independent candidate in the next election.

It is a simple process. It consists of a registration fee of $200, 25 signatures from fellow citizens in your district, and the desire to serve by knocking on the doors of approximately 2,000 households. The election of a majority of independent candidates in the next election would allow them to pass legislation removing the party system from our current form of government.

I am willing to meet with individuals across P.E.I. to discuss what it would take to be an independent candidate. I am distressed with a party system that packages and delivers in essence a block of MLA’s which promote the influential interests of individuals and organizations in urban areas.

The future voice of rural P.E.I. can only be protected by electing independent community minded members to the legislative assembly of Prince Edward Island. Let’s do this.

Bush Dumville,

MLA, West Royalty-Springvale
