Theatre going vintage

Rosie and the Riveters coming to Harbourfront

-

Vintage folk-inspired trio, Rosie and the Riveters, comes to Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside on Friday, April 13, and the theatre is going vintage for the occasion, encouraging audience members to dress up like it’s the 1940s.

Rosie and the Riveters has an unmistakable visual branding of red lipstick, pin curls, and 1940s-styled costuming, but this is not a throwback band. Their newest album, Ms. Behave, is a collection of gritty, folk anthems that paint a portrait of a woman’s voice in a man’s world.

In it, they fiercely embrace the feminist undertone of their moniker, Rosie the Riveter. Every word, note, and movement in the trio’s album and live show is done purposefully to empower and challenge audiences.

“Harbourfront’s really looking forward to having Rosie and the Riveters on stage this spring, and we’re excited to offer a little extra to our patrons by turning the evening into a ‘Harbourfront Goes Vintage’ event where people are encouraged to dress-up in their favourite 1940s style,” says Kieran Keller, Harbourfront Theatre’s executive director.

“But even more importantly, we’re proud to have the empowering message of Rosie and the Riveter’s music shared in our theatre.”

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and for more information, visit harbourfronttheatre.com.
