Getting in touch
Singers and musicians interested in being part in the next edition of the Music at the Mount Concert Series are asked to call Kevin Jesso at 902-969-8516. Performers will be offered a half hour showcase.
QAnyone interested in volunteering to play music throughout the week may call Charmaine MacGregor at 902370-5702.
QMount Concert Series. The first edition will take place Friday, April 6 at 7 p.m.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun. We’re doing it for the seniors,” says Jesso of the old-time music show that includes performances by Fenton MacSwain, Lou Doiron, Marie MacIntyre, Mike Buell, Joanne Ford, Ken and Judy Clark and Kenny MacKinnon and himself.
The goal is to have a Music at the Mount concert on the first Friday of every month featuring new people.
MacGregor sees it as a winwin situation for everyone.
“It gives people an opportunity to showcase themselves. It’s also about the residents and giving them something to do.”
She is looking forward to the fresh, new energy that will burst into the building.
“If residents had to see my face every day, it would become very boring,” she said, with a laugh.
Another thing I see that’s great is there is no rental fee for the groups. Admission is by donation. And all the donations will go directly back to the activity department.
Last summer, money raised helped fund excursions to Orwell Corner, Stanhope beach and the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
She hopes to do the same thing this summer.
And, as she looks forward to the future, MacGregor feels positive.
“We’re interested in seeing how everything unfolds. Right now, we have musicians coming in throughout the month to entertain residents. So, we’ll be building on that in our music program.”
