Warriors complete play fourth

Biggar, Arsenault receive awards for tournament

The Prince County Warriors finished with a 2-3 record at the Atlantic major midget hockey championsh­ip.

The Warriors, champions of the P.E.I. Major Bantam Hockey League, lost 4-1 to the host St. John’s Hitmen in the bronze-medal game on Sunday morning. The O’Leary-based Warriors fell 5-3 to the Hitmen on Saturday to complete roundrobin play 2-2.

Two Warriors were recognized at Saturday’s awards dinner. Team captain Zach Biggar, who had seven assists in four round-robin games, was named the tournament’s top defenceman, and Donovan Arsenault was selected as an all-star after scoring six goals in four contests.

Hitmen 4, Warriors 1

The Hitmen held period leads of 1-0 and 2-1.

Brett Hudson, Patrick Hurley, Jordan Winter and William Williams found the back of the net for the Hitmen.

Max Chisholm, assisted by Ethan Reilly and Will Smith, netted the lone Warriors’ goal.

Evan Martin made 32 saves for the win while Turner Ellis turned aside 43 of 46 shots in the loss. The fourth St. John’s goal was scored into an empty net.

Conor Shortall (1-1), Brady Mitchelmor­e, Declan Baron, Brett Hudson and Ben James scored for the Hitmen, who struck for four unanswered second-period goals to turn a 2-0 deficit after one into a 4-2 advantage.

Arsenault (2) and Jesse Blanchard found the back of the net for the Warriors.

Aiden Williams stopped 17 of 21 shots for Prince County, and Turner Ellis turned aside all 27 shots he faced in relief.
