Musicians take the stage tonight

Louise and Jonathan Arsenault perform at Winsloe United Church

-

Two well-known P.E.I. musicians will be taking to the stage at the Winsloe United Church, tonight, as the ceilidh series continues.

Host Colleen MacPhee will welcome Jonathan Arsenault and his mother, Louise Arsenault, two high energy entertainers, to join her for a night of song and lively fiddle tunes.

Jonathan is a jester of modern times, always clowning around, but he takes his music seriously, which is evident when he starts to play. He began playing the violin, like his mom, but now plays acoustic guitar along with whatever instrument is at his disposal.

He has travelled to many parts of the world with his mother and with the group Barachois. His vocal repertoire includes his own songs as well as favourites from Johnny Cash, John Prine, Paul Simon and others.

Louise has had a long impressive career in music, playing the fiddle in traditional/folk settings all over the world. Her part in the group Barachois is a highlight to her long list of musical projects, taking her to all four corners of the planet with her vibrant and energetic fiddle playing and feet stomping. Louise has produced a recording with her family another is set to be released in the near future.

In addition to hosting the show, MacPhee will be performing songs from a variety of artists and will be joined by some of her musical friends Brian Knox, Heartz Godkin, and Judy Lowe.

The April 9 ceilidh starts at 7:30 p.m. and is a fundraiser for Winsloe United Church at 121 Winsloe Rd.

Tickets are $10 at the door with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. There will be a light lunch served.
