A chance to give back

Bevan Bros. owners, Hal and Janet Bevan, give named endowment to QEH

- Submitted by the QEH Foundation

Hal and Janet Bevan of Charlottetown are no strangers to hard work.

At just 16 years of age, Hal began working in the familyowned business, Bevan Bros. Plumbing and Heating which has been in operation since 1934. This well-known Island business has been run by three generations of Bevans and is currently co-owned by Hal and his son, Quentin.

Hal and Janet married in 1966, and as Hal ran the family business, Janet supported his efforts and cared for their three children. Now, they feel blessed enjoying time with their five grandsons.

“It’s been on our minds for a long time to make this gift to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation as a thank-you to the community for supporting our business all these years,” said the couple.

“It’s where we live and where our family earned a living, so we feel we have a responsibility to give back.”

The Bevans always admired others who have made donations to the QEH Foundation, and this year, they decided the timing was right for them to do their part to help.

“We consider ourselves lucky that we have not had to use many of the services provided by the QEH, but we know by making this donation of shares transfer that every Island family will benefit,” they said.

“No one knows when we or a loved one may need it in the future. We hope by sharing, we can inspire other family-owned businesses and entrepreneurs to do what they can.”

Named endowments are perpetual gifts that keep on giving. The principal is invested and only the income from the fund is used to purchase medical equipment each year.

In recognition of this endowment, the Hal and Janet Bevan Named Endowment will be added to the QEH Foundation donor wall located in the main lobby of the QEH.
