Stabbing leads to four-month sentence

-

A P.E.I. man who knifed a friend with a two-inch blade was sentenced on Tuesday to four months in jail for assault with a weapon.

David Robyn Doucette will also be on probation for 12 months and is prohibited from possessing any firearm for 10 years.

In addition, Doucette must pay $200 into the victim of crime fund.

Doucette stood in court to apologize for his actions, asking the judge to take into consideration the fact he had managed to keep out of trouble for a long time before the assault, which took place last summer.

Provincial court judge John Douglas accepted that Doucette’s remorse is genuine, but he noted his most recent crime, as well as previous convictions, were quite serious offences.

The assault with a weapon conviction stemmed from an incident on July 13 when Doucette got into an argument with a friend.

The court heard last month that Doucette, who was having drinks with the friend, became upset and accused his friend of owing him money.

He left his friend’s place and returned five minutes later, yelling while holding a knife with a two-inch blade. The victim used one of his couches to block the doorway Doucette was standing in. Doucette tried to get at him with a knife, and in the process slit his friend’s index and middle finger.
