P.E.I. authors release book on education
Two University of Prince Edward Island professors whose research centres on education have released a book on teachers’ work-life balance.
“From Narratives of Teaching: Conversations Toward Agency and Authenticity in Education,” written by Sean Wiebe and Craig MacDonald, invites readers into an intimate conversation about the work-life circumstances of teachers.
The book is described by the publisher as a must-read for teachers, teacher educators, policy-makers, parents, and everyone who cares about education.
Drawing on the research about teacher work-life on Prince Edward Island, Wiebe and MacDonald contribute a distinct collaborative perspective to discussions about what it means to be a teacher in this time.
Through a series of critical questions, they reveal the intricate ways the autonomy, authority and accountability intertwine and manifest in the daily lives of teachers.
“Wiebe and MacDonald weave together a thoughtful, erudite, and evocative conversation about the complex and fluid spaces that teachers live between school and home,” said professor Susan Walsh of Mount Saint Vincent University.
“Their insights will resonate with the lived experiences of teachers and provide rich prompts for discussion towards imagining more authentic and sustainable teacher work lives,” said Diane Conrad, associate professor at the University of Alberta.
