THREE RIVERS Did I lose my right to say no?

Proud of what they did, but you must ask yourself, ‘what the hell was the point?’

- BY GLEN MCDONALD Glen McDonald, Grand View, is a P.E.I. musician “and a guy who doesn’t like to get stepped on.”

For years I have watched what was happening in other countries with people fighting against police — blowing up buildings, people getting hurt and you wonder, what, are these people crazy? Look at what they are doing to their country.

But when you deal with the system for years, you learn they are good people who are pushed past their limit and that is exactly where we’re heading.

People are being pushed too far by those who think they deserve a piece of what other people work for and all they have to do is ask government to put a policy in place to enforce it. Does it leave you with a clear conscience?

Yes, but does it make you less responsible? No.

Some on Montague town council are trying to back out of this Three Rivers deal. Why? It makes you wonder if the same reason is why Montague and Kilmuir now have no political representative. Did they finally find a representative who has principles?

I believe that a class action lawsuit against all people that put hand to pen or keyboard is required here. In the constitution, anyone that makes your life hard to survive can and should he held accountable.

Personally, since Christmas, I have put about $30,000 of upgrades on my home . . . paid all the taxes all along the way and scratched and clawed to do it.

And am I going to be able to enjoy what I accomplished? No. I get someone that thinks they have the right to say, “Great, now you get to pay more so I can get to claim my honorarium.”

There are people in this province who are not surviving. They are barely existing.

This is not going to help the many. It will only help a few and make it even harder for many.

You try to leave something for your family; unfortunately, this makes my life’s work a handicap for them instead of a benefit.

In the last many years, I have wondered on many occasions, why did my grandfather, Austin McDonald, serve to be one of the few survivors of Vimy Ridge; and wife’s father Edward Perotte, serve as a merchant marine in the Second World War. Would they see any point in doing it today?

Although it is easy to be proud of what they did more times than not, you must ask yourself, what the hell was the point?
