Singers present concert

-

The Amabile Singers will present an enchanting concert of vocal music celebrating dreams and the magic of the night on Sunday at 7:30 p.m., in St. Paul’s Church in Charlottetown.

The choir is delighted to be joined on stage by accompanist Andrea Ellis and soloists Shannon Scales, soprano, and Marc DesRoches, oboe, for selected numbers. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission at the door.

The Amabile Singers was the brainchild of Ruth Ann ReadClay and some like-minded musical friends. This SATB group has evolved over the last several years, first under the direction of Read-Clay and since January of 2018, Travis Boudreau. Each conductor has helped to shape the choir into the elegant musical entity it is today. The April 15 concert is a perfect example of the quality music created by this chamber choir.

Boudreau is an emerging educator, conductor and active solo, chamber and orchestral musician from Prince Edward Island. A professional clarinetist and vocalist, he completed his studies at the University of Prince Edward Island under Karem J. Simon, Shun-Ha ShinBouey and Stephen Bouey. He is currently the conductor and director of the Charlottetown Legion Choir, director of choirs at Holy Redeemer Church and since January of this year, the Amabile Singers, as well as teaching music full-time at Ecole La Belle Cloche in Fortune.

The theme of the concert is Night and Dreams, and the program is full of delightful music in this vein. Traditional pieces such as “Loch Lomond” and “Carrickfergus”, “The Lover’s Chant “by Matthew Emery, Morten Lauridsen’s “Sure on this Shining Night”, Eric Whitacre’s” Fly to Paradise” and “Sleep” and a whimsical version of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” are just a few of the lovely pieces concert-goers will hear.
