Students busy with fundraisers, field trips
There’s a grad activity at the school on Wednesday from 6:308:30 p.m. Students will be playing Capture the Flag and other games.
The annual Blazer Beef Supper, a major KRHS fundraising event, will be held at Kinkora Place on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and $8 for children-under-12. Take-outs will be available.
KRHS students will be attending Atlantic Band Fest in Halifax April 26-27. Appreciation is expressed to Peter Wynne for the work he does with the music program. Concert band rehearsals are Tuesdays from 3:10-4:10 p.m. Grade 9 rehearsals are Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m.
The grad gala/prom is May 19 at 5 p.m. at Kinkora Place and the school. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased in advance.
Appreciation is expressed to Maggie Linkletter and family for agreeing to host the grad barbecue, following Grade 12 exams in June. Appreciation is also extended to Payton Reeves and family for hosting the grad breakfast on graduation morning, June 22. Grad parents are encouraged to contact either family to help out at these events.
Montague Regional High School
MRHS is hosting the second Wellness Expo on Wednesday morning. This valuable event highlights healthy living and mindfulness.
There will be a parent council meeting on April 23 at 5:30 pm.
Congratulations to Chloe Harris, the only student from Atlantic Canada selected to compete at the Poetry in Voice National Finals. She will travel to Toronto this month, where she will recite three poems for a chance to win $5000.
Students and staff are appreciative of the Montague Rotary and Lions Club who graciously donated $1000 each to allow us to purchase bottle filling stations for our water fountains. The school is saving thousands of plastic bottles from being thrown away because students are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles to school.

Charlottetown Rural High School
CRHS students Helen Shen and Dylan Cooper recently participated in the Biogenius regional competition at Dalhousie University. This experience gave students hands-on research experience in a professional lab setting. Participants compile their results and present their findings at regional competitions.
CRHS students competed in the 2018 P.E.I. Skills Canada Competition. They earned seven medals in the following disciplines: gold, Jaden MacNeill (carpentry), Carson Gallant (culinary), Benji Newson (TV production), Jackson Kyle (TV production), Erin Chiasson (IT software solutions) and Matthew Driese (welding).
A bronze medal was awarded to Colin Jenkins (auto service). Gold medal winners advance to the national competition later in May in Edmonton, Alta.
Registration for the 2018-2019 school year will be held from April 16-20. Current students will be registering for next year’s courses through their homeroom classes. Information on courses can be found through the registration link on the school’s website www.therural.ca.
CRHS will be staging the Walt Disney production, “High School Musical” at the Confederation Centre of the Arts from May 9-12. Performances are on May 10, 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Confederation Centre box office by calling 902-566-1267 or 1-800-565-0278. Westisle Composite High School
Students received their midterm report cards on April 11. Parent/teacher interviews were conducted on April 12 and 13. Appreciation is extended to all parents/guardians who attended.
The 2018 Skills P.E.I. Job Fair is April 19 at the Mill River Resort. Storm date is April 20, with an opportunity for students to visit from 12:30-2 p.m. and the public from 2- 5 p.m.

Colonel Gray High School
Welcome to David Xi, a new permanent cleaner joining the Colonel Gray staff. Congratulations to Brian Hickey as he begins his well-earned retirement.
Starting on April 16, the access for students and visitors to the school will only be through two entrances - the main doors at the front of the school and the doors on the student parking lot side. All other doors will remain locked during the day while students are in the building.
Grade 10 and 11 students will be registering for next year’s courses from April 16-19.

On April 16, representatives from Mount Allison University will be at the school during lunch to assist applicants with registration information.
On April 17, an eight-week session is starting for parents/ guardians facing the challenge of a loved one’s problematic substance use or gambling. Parents wanting to play an active role in helping a teen or young adult should contact Kevin McKinnon at 902-368-4273, prior to the starting date. Sessions will run in Mount Herbert, on Tuesdays for eight weeks, from 6 – 8 p.m.
On April 19, UPEI staff will be in the Colonel Gray computer lab 153 during lunch. Applicants will have the opportunity to register for fall courses and be assisted with academic planning. Sign up at CG Student Services.
Students should plan to attend the April 21 North Shore Tourism Job Fair at North Rustico Lions Club from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Bring a resume, talk with employers and score a summer job working in the Stanley Bridge, Cavendish, Rustico, Brackley, Stanhope and Covehead areas.
A Home and School meeting is April 24 at 7 p.m. in the library.
Mid-term report cards were sent home with students last week. Keep these report cards in a safe place as they may be required for attendance verification in the future, immigration documentation or unofficial marks when applying for scholarships and bursaries.
